7 Best Long-established Mexican Restaurants in Cebu

1. Maya Mexican Restaurant

I grew up in a targeted immigration zone which featured a ton of Jalisco region immigrants, so naturally we ended up with a bevy of Mexican restaurants and taco trucks. This place might not quite measure up to the best of the best from that lineup, but for my money it’s easily the best Mexican restaurant in Cebu.

The ambience is quiet and comfortably dark, so it’s a fantastic place for dates and just as good for the family. The food is a little on the expensive side but of consistently high quality.

Coming from Guatemala I didn’t have my expectations too high for authentic Mexican cuisine. However Maya excels in service, great menu and house beers. More tending to Tex-Mex cuisine they make the best with or without seasonal ingredients (like avocado). We order nachos and they are crispy home made with fresh toppings and extra salsas they bring to table. Recommended! We also got asada burrito Cali style and it was solid. Paired with a Luchador house beer…excellent!

The local is modern, sophisticated and the music Latino Buena vista style. Manager and waiter staff super friendly and attentive. You can tell they were well trained and they are motivated! Keep it up guys and thx for great eve!

2. Mooon Cafe

Well exactly what the title says! The food was alright, I had a chimichanga which was ok, partner had the chili con carne which again was ok. Beers were nice and cold which I marked up for lol. Setting was nice as they are currently playing a Disney themed Christmas decorations which is pretty cool so you get a good view. It was the next day that done us, sat on toilet for 2-3 days. Maybe it’s just Mexican food abroad as this isn’t the first time after a Mexican lol

My Mexican craving continues with Mooon Cafe located at Ayala Mall Cebu. I ordered chimichanga and fish taco!! To my surprise, they really taste awesome. The price is also too cool to be true!!! Beef Chimichanga is so good I wanted to order more!!! The skin is thinly crisp and the inside so juicy and tasteful. The fish taco is good as well! The fish is battered and lightly fried. I am lucky to have tried this resto… I also ordered 2 salsas and both were freshly prepared! i will definitely recommend this resto to all Mexican food lovers!!! Kudos to the staff. Loving my time here.

Visited this place last time I was in Cebu and told everyone back home how good the place was. Could not wait to try it again and made a visit as soon as I arrived in Cebu, had a few family with me, so there was 6 people in total.

Service was good to start with, however everything else was not, both the Mexican and Filipino dishes were poor, took ages to get a drink and the staff seemed uninterested. We tried again before we left to return to the UK and this time it was even worse. Took ages to get a drink and the we ordered only Mexican dishes which were absolutely awful, the tortillas that came with my fajitas were actually raw.

We did complain and the manager just looked at us with an open mouth, eventually after insisting that I got a discount he took a couple of hundred Peso off the bill. Will not bother next time I am in Cebu, there are plenty of good restaurants in AYALA Mall, avoid this one and choose something else.
